Yellow Watchman Goby - Cryptocentrus cinctus

The Yellow Watchman Goby, also known as the Watchman Yellow Prawn, Yellow Shrimp Goby, or Watchman Yellow Goby, was first discovered in 1936 by Herre. The head and body are yellow-orange with bright blue spots on the head and fins.

The Yellow Watchman Goby have a high dorsal fin or spine and bright blue spots on their head, fins, and body. The Yellow Watchman Goby are often found pairing up with Shrimp to secure their burrow. They make tremendous additions to established reef tanks. These fish are also jumpers, so precautions should be taken to secure openings at the top of the aquarium. Only one Yellow Watchman Goby should be kept per tank.

The Yellow Watchman Goby is an interesting specimen that forms a very cool symbiotic relationship with the pistol shrimp. The Yellow Watchman Goby watches out for predatory fishes and warns the shrimp. The shrimp has limited eye sight and needs the goby to alert them of predators while the goby uses the shrimp's hole as shelter. They both benefit from eachother.

The Yellow Shrimp Goby is the most often purchased Shrimp Goby for aquariums. This species adapts well to aquarium life and has even spawned in reef aquariums. Only male-female Yellow Shrimp Goby pairs should be put in the same (especially small) tank as these Gobies will attack other Shrimp Gobies.

The Yellow Watchman Goby should do fine in most setups but may get eaten by larger, more aggressive tank mates. They do like to hide alot and live rock should help make them feel secure. Some have reported that this fish has jumped from the tank so a good tight fitting aquarium hood with no escape points is needed.

You may be able to keep mated pairs but it is not advisable to keep more than a mated pair of Yellow Watchman Gobies in smaller tanks. They may fight over territory with other goby species.

The Yellow Watchman Goby seem to be very resistant to most saltwater fish disease but they still need proper pre-cautions and a quarantine tank should be used before introducing them into main tank. After they've been in quarantine for two weeks or so and you notice no signs of illness, slowly acclimate them into your display tank.

The Yellow Watchman Goby is quite shy and may disappear for long periods of time. If yours disappears, don't despair since it is probably hiding somewhere in the tank.

The Yellow Watchman Goby are found in water of Indo-Pacific Ocean.

Feeding and Diet:
The Yellow Watchman Goby are not very picky when it comes to fish food and should accept most foods that are given to them. Try to give them a varied diet of live, frozen, freeze-dried and vitamin-enriched flake foods. Make sure they are getting their share around feeding time.
