Product Description

Spotted Watchman Goby - Cryptocentrus leptocephalus - Blue Spot Watchman Goby - Pinkspotted Shrimp Goby

Spotted Watchman Goby - Cryptocentrus leptocephalus

The Spotted Watchman Goby is also known as the Pink and Blue Spotted, Singapore Shrimp, Leptocephalus Prawn, or Watchman Spotted Goby. The head and body are yellow to tan with pink spots surrounded by smaller blue spots.

The Spotted Watchman Goby is not very talented in digging, and the shrimp is blind. The shrimp digs the burrow and the goby acts as a "seeing-eye fish" for the shrimp. Whenever the shrimp is out of the burrow, he always keeps one antennae on the goby and retreats quickly back to the burrow if the fish swishes his tail. They built several burrows around the tank before finally settling down. The burrow is quite elaborate as they gathered many pieces of rock rubble to create their home.

At night, the Spotted Watchman Goby closes the burrow off with the larger piece of rock, there is absolutely no evidence that it exists, unless you know the rock is covering a hole.

In the morning, the Spotted Watchman Goby shoves the rock back out of the way and spends the majority of his time sitting outside the burrow. When the tank is fed, the goby brings food to the shrimp.

Minimum Tank Size Suggested:
Spotted Watchman Goby requires a 30 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of loose coral rubble, ample swimming room, and a sand bottom for burrowing. It rarely becomes aggressive towards other fish, but it is territorial, and will fight with its own kind unless they are a mated pair. It may try to jump out of the aquarium or other small openings, therefore, a tight-fitting lid is required.

Spotted Watchman Goby may sometimes attempt to jump out. They need places to burrow and prefer presence of substrate. The Spotted Watchman Goby is known to be one of the watchman family that will share it's burrow with a pistol shrimp.

Spotted Watchman Goby is gray with pinkish bands on the body and pink spots on the head and fins. There are also small blue spots on the head. It is also one of the more aggressive shrimp-gobies. It is more likely to pose a behavioral problem if space is limited and they are one of the first introductions to the tank. Provide with a plenty of hiding places and a sand bottom.

General Size Specifications:
These fishes make excellent reef compatibility. The Spotted Watchman Goby grows up to 6 inches. These fish generally will come to you at 2 to 3 inches. The Spotted Watchman Goby is a low maintenance fish.

Habitat:
The Spotted Watchman goby is found in the coasts of Australia, in different oceanic parts of Indonesia and other Indo-Pacific regions.

Tank Conditions:
The Spotted Watchman Goby may act semi-aggressively toward other fish. The Spotted Watchman Gobies require high quality of water. Usually the tank conditions required are the temperature not less than 72 degree Fahrenheit but to be less than 78 degree Fahrenheit. The specific gravity should be kept between 1.020 and 1.025 points and the pH should vary between 8.1 and 8.4 point.

Feeding and Diet:
The Spotted Goby diet should include a variety of mysid shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, table shrimp, and frozen food preparations for carnivores. It should be fed at least twice per day. on zooplankton and small bottom-dwelling invertebrates, provide a varied diet that includes frozen preparations for carnivores.
