Spot-Banded Butterfly Fish - Chaetodon punctatofasciatus

The Spotbanded Butterflyfish, also known as the Dot Dash Butterflyfish, Punctato Butterflyfish, or Spot-band Butterflyfish, has a yellow-tan body. As it matures, it becomes more yellow dorsally with about seven vertical dark stripes on the upper half of the body, with rows of dark spots below.

The aquarium for the Spotbanded Butterflyfish should be 50 gallons or larger, have numerous hiding places, and calm tank mates. It should not be housed in a reef aquarium since it tends to eat most invertebrates.

The diet for the Spotbanded Butterflyfish should consist of finely chopped seafood meats and algae-based meals.

Social Behaviors:
A rather shy fish it is found singly, in pairs, or in groups. Not aggressive towards other fish. It is frequently found swimming with a similar looking butterflyfish, C. pelewensis, the dot-and-dash butterflyfish.

Maximum Size:
Dot Dash Butterfly or the Chaetodon pelewensis grows up to 5 inches.

General Size Specifications:
The small size will come to you generally 1 to 2 inches; the medium generally 3 to 4 inches; the large generally 5 to 6 inches not including the caudal fin.

Minimum Tank Size:
The Spot Band Butterfly prefers a tank of at least 40 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
