Product Description

Singapore Angelfish - Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus - Vermiculated Angel Fish

Singapore Angelfish - Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus

The Singapore Angelfish, also known as the Vermiculated Angelfish, has been likened to a butterflyfish in body structure. Blue lips and a yellow nose abruptly change to a black vertical band over the eyes, resembling a mask. The mask is bordered with another thin vertical band of yellow, followed by a wider vertical band of white with the body being primarily black. Dorsal and anal fins are outlined in brilliant sapphire-blue and the caudal is usually yellow but may be gray.

The Singapore Angelfish can be challenging to keep. Some acclimate well, while others hide constantly and do not eat. Providing a quietly-located aquarium with non-aggressive tank mates and plenty of hiding places may help. A minimum of a 55-gallon tank or larger provided with live rock for grazing will also help provide an optimal environment. The Singapore Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. It will also graze on microalgae, filamentous algae, and diatoms.

Full size angels should not be mixed with other full size angels, unless it is in a tank of at least 180 gallons. A popular Angel, the Singapore Angel is a very attractive specimen that can be kept with other Angels in a nice community type tank or Reef type aquarium. The Singapore Angel is thought to be a protogynous hermaphrodite; that is they can change from one sex to another. The Singapore Angel is also a shy species that requires a lot of hiding places, so it can adapt more readily to a captive situation.

Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).

The Singapore Angelfish groups Up to 7 inches in size. Dwarf Singapore Angelfish Are generally available at 2-3 inches.

Habitat:
Western Pacific, throughout Southeast Asia, Solomon Islands, and northwestern Australia.

Specific Care Information:
They require a tank with peaceful tankmates, plenty of live rock for hiding and a good supply of microalgae and filamentous algae.

Diet:
Feed a varied diet consisting of large chunks of meaty foods. These foods include krill, raw table shrimp, squid, clam and mussel. It is also a good idea to occasionally supplement with some type of herbivore diet containing spirulina and supplement with a sponge fortified formula specifically for Angelfish.

Breeding :
The Singapore Angelfish is hermaphroditic, difficult to breed, and does not have distinguishable variations in color between male and female.
